Last December, I read a little short story called The Six Deaths of the Saint by Alix E. Harrow. The year was ending and I was trying to speedrun short books so I could hit my reading goal (I didn’t) so I tried out a few books from this Into Shadow series. This one was the one that stood out, this was the one I stayed thinking about longer after its 30 pages were closed.

A few months ago, my best friend Rachel and I were discussing books and this short story came up. She said she didn’t know I had read it and “did you know Alix E. Harrow is writing a full novel inspired by it?” I screamed NOOOOO and went digging. That was the first time I heard of The Everlasting and I immediately requested the arc.

When I got approved for it, I screamed and since Rachel got approved for it too, we started reading together. We love a buddy read and since our tastes are pretty different, it’s so rare for us to find a book we both LOVE so we had a blast reading this together. I also requested a physical arc and got an early copy delivered into my hands. The video accompanying this post is from the day I got the physical arc. 🥹

Fast forward to about a month ago, Rachel and I were planning our NYC activities and Alix E. Harrow announced some book tour dates for The Everlasting - one of which was happening about 3 hours away and a few days after I’d get back from New York. Rachel was like “what if” and I was like “what IF” so Rachel reconfigured her plane tickets to fly back with me so we could go to the Southern Festival of Books together and see Alix speak, get early copies of The Everlasting and maybe even get them signed.

Spoiler alert, we managed to pull off all three and I had the foresight to grab an extra signed copy for one of my darling bookworms and weirdos.

That brings us to now, where I have read The Everlasting twice, I am currently making my way through the gorgeously narrated audiobook and I am bullying all of my friends into reading it OH AND we are reading it together in book club for November. Click here to join!
