The Sunday Snapshot | March

The Sunday Snapshot | March

Hello, happy Sunday and welcome to The Sunday Snapshot, a new blog series that I started in January, completely forgot about in February and am back on track with for March! I hope you had a good weekend and that you were able to carve out a little time for yourself. We all need that from time to time, especially with the ::gestures broadly at everything:: going on. Let’s get into some of the media that has been fueling my escapism this month!

🎧 LISTENING TO:

Peaceful Village by The Vault of Ambience - Spotify | iTunes

I’ve been listening to soundscapes more and more lately. It has a lot to do with the fact that while I like to listen to things while I work, I can’t focus if the music has lyrics. Soundscapes are perfect for this and The Vault of Ambience’s album titled Peaceful Village has been on repeat. It feels like I’m sitting in a hypoallergenic meadow!

Emergence by Sleep Token - Spotify | iTunes

I’m sure your jaws remained in place. You mean to tell me that the former emo, elder millennial, chronically online crybaby weirdo listens to Sleep Token? Yes, yes that’s exactly what I’m telling you. I love the new song lyrically, musically, spiritually. I also love that the sax is played by Gabi Rose.

📖 READING:

Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green - PURCHASED | PHYSICAL

I had to be out of my house for a couple of days because reasons (quit being nosy, I will tell you soon) and I ended up wandering Barnes & Noble for a couple hours. I left with a signed copy of this book that I started reading immediately and already love. It’s a thoughtful, well researched nonfiction book about - you guessed it - tuberculosis.

The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson - LIBRARY | AUDIO

After such an amazing Women in Horror panel a couple weeks ago, I ran to the Libby app to see if any Tiffany D. Jackson titles were available and thank goodness, the exact one I wanted to read first was ready for me to borrow! I am only around 10% in but it’s already so good and I cannot wait to read more.

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins - LIBRARY & PURCHASED | ALL

I borrowed the audiobook from the library and purchased both a digital and physical copy. I couldn’t be more thankful for my library to be honest, because even though I preordered a physical copy, it didn’t get here until over a week after pub day. I finished it and immediately started reading it again, this time reading the digital book while listening to the audio. I cried so much I got a headache. I’m a really chill person, thanks for asking.

📼 WATCHING:

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023)

Of course after finishing Sunrise, I ran to its predecessors for comfort. I started with Songbirds and Snakes because it felt right. The movie is way better than the book in my opinion. The book is great of course, but being in Snow’s life is not as exhausting in the film as it is in the text. Plus, Rachel’s singing is amazing.

The Hunger Games (2012)

Naturally, I started the trilogy next. None of them are available for streaming right now - which feels targeted - but thankfully I am a person who purchases physical copies of the things I love the most so I just pretended it was 2012 again and popped in the DVD. Both the book and movie have so much to offer that they kind of stand on their own instead of one being “better” than the other.

🎮 PLAYING:

Raptor Boyfriend (2021)

I didn’t get to include a “playing” section last time because I wasn’t really gaming much but this time, I am so I can! I have been livestreaming this weird little dating sim called Raptor Boyfriend and to be honest… I am having a lot of fun with it. It is silly goofy and chill which is an amazing combination. Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube so you don’t miss future livestreams and if you become a channel member, you will get access to all of the live replays!

Silent Hill 2 (2024)

Mr. Natalie got this for me for Christmas and I am only just now getting to play it! So far, it is a slow start but since I am very familiar with the world of Silent Hill, I am an anxious mess regardless. I haven’t streamed any of this yet but I plan to. Let me know if you’d be interested in watching me be a wuss in a ghost town filled with humanoid monsters.
